Aluminum 6070 Sheet, Bar, and Plate
Aluminum 6070 is available in very large sizes and in different shapes, such as Aluminum 6070 Sheet. Aluminum 6070 is divided into several groups on the basis of its form of production, usability and size. These large sizes are not furnished in all alloys, tempers, and finishes and cannot be procured from all suppliers. Generally, however, Aluminum 6070 Sheet sizes obtainable in aluminum alloy exceed those available in other nonferrous metals and approximate those produced in steel.
Aluminum 6070 Bar
Commercial Aluminum 6070 Bar ranges in thickness from 0.00017 to 0.0059 in. and in width from 0.250 to 61 in. It can come as Aluminum 6070 Bar. Aluminum 6070 Bar is produced with two sides bright or one side bright and one satin finished. Aluminum that is 0.250 in (6.35 mm) or thicker is classified as plate; sheet is 0.006 to 0.249 in. thick. Aluminum 6070 Bar is supplied either flat rolled or in coils. Aluminum 6070 Bar is also available in circular and odd-shaped blanks that are sheared, blanked, sawed, or routed to size or specified configuration.
Aluminum 6070 Plate
Tolerances of Aluminum 6070 Plate are about the same as those in other metals. Aluminum 6070 Plate can be divided into non-heat-treatable and heat treatable. Cladding of Aluminum 6070 Plate was developed initially to increase the corrosion resistance of 2017-T4 sheet and thus to reduce aluminum aircraft maintenance requirements. The coating on Aluminum 6070 consisted of commercial-purity aluminum metallurgically bonded to one or both surfaces of the sheet.
