Titanium 6-4 Sheet, Bar, Plate, and Tubing

This alpha-beta Titanium 6-4 Sheet grade is the most widely available and heavily used of all the titanium grades.  Titanium 6-4 Sheet is heat treatable and combines excellent strength and corrosion resistance with weld and fabricability.  It is widely used in the aircraft industry in a variety of turbine and "hot" structural applications.  Titanium 6-4 is also known as Ti-6AL-4V or simply Ti 6-4.

Titanium 6-4 Bar

For heat treatment of Titanium 6-4 Bar, you should solution treat at 904-954 C (1660-1750 F) for 2 hours and follow that with a water quench.  Titanium 6-4 Bar is the workhorse of all the titanium grades.  Its high strength, light weight, and corrosion resistance enables Titanium 6-4 Bar to be used in many applications.  The most common market for Titanium 6-4 Bar is the aerospace industry.  Titanium 6-4 is also "age hardenable" by heat treatment to achieve even higher strengths.

Titanium 6-4 Plate

Titanium 6-4 Plate is generally employed in applications up to 400 C (750 F).  Titanium 6-4 Plate may be hot or cold formed.  Popular methods for forming Titanium 6-4 Plate include hydropress, stretch, or drop-hammer.  Titanium 6-4 responds very similar to the way 300 series stainless steels respond.  In terms of weldability, Titanium 6-4 is rated as "fair".  Titanium 6-4 also comes as Titanium 6-4 Tubing.
